Designed by William Morris in 1876, Pimpernel is an almost symmetrical design featuring the delicate pimpernel flower against a rhythmic base of swirling tendrils. With its dramatic power, Pimpernel is a typical design of this period by Morris & Co. especially through the use of oversized flower heads to create an immersive three-dimensionality. Another important style trend in Morris & Co.'s portfolio, Pimpernel translates the designer's fascination with tapestries into wallpaper, creating a truly immersive painterly depth. Morris himself was so impressed with Pimpernel that it starred in the dining room of his own Kelmscott Manor in London.
